Laser-assisted epilation enables a very significant reduction in the total number of terminal hairs. The laser or IPL equipment emits energy that reaches the melanin present in the hair bulb, and is transformed into heat. In just one of the hair’s growth phases (anagen phase) this heat is able to destroy both the blood vessel that feeds the follicle and the structure attached to the follicle that would give rise to a new hair. This treatment can NOT be considered permanent or definitive, as it is not able to destroy another structure that is close to the follicle and rich in stem cells, which could develop into a new hair. The results of the treatment are long-term, with a reduction in terminal hairs that varies from body part to body part, but in some areas as much as 90%. The treatment cannot be carried out on tanned skin.
